Dog Parties

Let's Celebrate!

Maybe your dog's birthday is approaching...or he's accomplished something wonderful lately, such as graduating from obedience school. Why not celebrate with a dog party? Here are some terrific ideas from Woman's World magazine.

What to Serve

A party isn't a party without treats! Here are a couple of pup-pleasing recipes that are sure to make your doggie party the hit of the year.

Peanut Butter Pupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Whisk together 3 cups whole-wheat flour and 2 tsp. baking powder in a bowl. Combine 2 cups water, 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce, 1/4 cup creamy peanut butter, 2 tbs. honey and 1 tsp. vanilla extract. Add to flour mixture. Beat at medium speed with electric mixer until blended. Place paper baking cups in a 12-cup muffin pan. Spoon batter into cups, filling 3/4 full. Bake for 17 minutes. Remove from pans to wire rack; place in freezer 8 to 10 minutes or until cool. For frosting, beat 1 8-oz. pkg. of 1/3-less-fat cream cheese with electric mixer until fluffy. Add 1 tbs. flour and 2 tbs. honey, beating until smooth. Spread on pupcakes and top each with a dog biscuit. These can be stored in a refrigerated container for up to 2 days. Makes 1 dozen.

Rolled-Oat Dog Bones

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Coat baking sheets with cooking spray. Combine 1/2 cup quick-cooking rolled oats, 2 1/2 cups whole-wheat flour, 1 egg, 1/4 cup canola oil and 2 tbs. molasses. Stir in 1/4 cup water until combined. On lightly floured surface, roll out dough to 1/2-inch thickness. Using 2 3/4-inch bone-shaped cookie cutter, cut out treats. Transfer to baking sheets. Bake 10-12 minutes or until dry and set. Remove from pans and cool on rack.

A hint: Your guests' parents may not want their pet to have a lot of treats. The dog may be on a special diet or have allergies. If the dog doesn't have allergies or need a special diet but can't have all their treats during the party, you could make up a 'doggie bag' so they can enjoy the treats later.

Your Pup-Themed Playlist

Add a special touch to your celebration with some dog-inspired tunes, such as:

"Hound Dog" by Elvis Presley

"Who Let the Dogs Out" by Baha Men

"How Much is that Doggie in the Window" by Patti Page

"Black Dog" by Led Zeppelin

"Hey Bulldog" by the Beatles

You get the idea...
